Making these 'artoons' consisted of collecting old artworks from second hand stores, and buying some vintage cartoons from antique markets. I then took my scalpel through them to create arbitrary new narratives in the artworks.
On the back of some of these artworks I found amazing old stickers, hand written messages, and lots of rusty nails, brittle tape and sharp triangular metal shards to keep the artwork in place. Needless to say it was a dangerous project for someone as clumsy as me.
After finding a particular speech bubble to use for each artwork, it took some fidgeting to slot them in the correct place. Fixing the back of the frames back was an even more tricky proposition.
Some of the old advertisements were a wonderful time capsule into the coupon culture of those days. 'SKINNY? MUSCLES WILL APPEAR...ALMOST LIKE MAGIC!'
